Last December 9, 2010 Christmas has been felt in Washington DC. The National Christmas Tree was finally lit along with President Barack Obama and his family.


Ever since the year 1923, the United States has kept a custom of lighting a National Christmas Tree in Washington, DC. During 1978, a live 40-foot Colorado blue spruce has been transferred from York, Pennsylvania to its existing location at the grassy area South of the White House known as the Ellipse. In 1954, 56 small-sized designed trees were planted surrounding the National Christmas Tree that represents all 50 states, five territories, and the District of Columbia which was also called a “Pathway of Peace“. Annually sponsoring organizations through every state produce tree adornments which are wrap inside a protective plastic material globe in order to protect it through the weather conditions. This lighting of the National Christmas Tree will be the commencing of the 3 week Washington, DC Christmas tradition.
